Rates of Royalty and Cess On Major Minerals

The most important major minerals produced from the State are Coal, Limestone, Sillimanite and Quartz.
The rates of royalty on major minerals are as per The Second Schedule of the Mines and Minerals (Development & Regulation) Act, 1957. The present rates of royalty vide Central Government Notification No. G.S.R.574 (E) dated 13/08/2009 and implemented by the State Government vide Notification No.MG.31/2008/PT-II/59 dated 28/09/2010, are as follows:-

1. Limestone     -     Rs. 63/- Per Metric Tonne.
2. Quartz            -     Fifteen per cent of sale price on ad valorem basis.
3. Sillimanite     -     Two and half percent of sale price on ad valorem basis.

The rate of royalty in respect of Coal as revised vide Notification No.G.S.R.522 (E) dated 01/08/2007 by the Ministry of Coal, Government of India , has been computed and arrived at Rs.290/- per Metric Tonne for the state of Meghalaya and was implemented by the State Government vide Notification No.MG.31/2008/162 dated 21/08/2009

Mineral Cess

The rates of Mineral Cess on major minerals as revised by the State Government vide Notification No.MG.115/2007/31 dated 06/01/2009 is as follows:-

(i) Limestone    - Rs.20/- Per Metric Tonne.
(ii) Sillimanite   - Rs. 300/- per Metric Tonne.
(iii) Fire Clay      - Rs.5/- Per Metric Tonne.
